We arrived in Georgetown, Guyana at midnight and you can just image how exhausted we were. Mind you; I knew that Filipinos are required to get a visa, but unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to do such. So I just followed my gut feel and said to Jonathan that we should ‘wing it.’ True enough, the only question I got from the immigration officer was “What’s the purpose of your visit?” I just said that we might as well see Georgetown before we go to Suriname (this is a visa – free country for Filipinos). And just like that, the beautiful lady stamped my passport and worked on Jonathan’s passport next! Can you believe it? Again, the Universe worked in our favor. Of course, I had a back – up plan which is to rebook our flight to Suriname at an earlier time. Obviously, we spared ourselves from that.

Guyana is the only country in South America where the official language is English. It is located in South America’s North Atlantic coast. Aside from that, they only receive less visitors per year compared to its neighboring countries. The number of tourists visiting the country doesn’t mean that Guyana is not as charming as the other countries in South America. In my opinion, it has its character and charm that any traveler should be able to witness. Looking back at our photos now, it’s as if I am back in the Philippines with all the rustic and old houses we’ve seen around Georgetown. While they don’t focus much on tourism, they are earning from the country’s rich minerals such as gold and of course, their rum.

We stayed at Signature Inn at Georgetown, Guyana and I must say, you would get the luxury in the city – without breaking your bank accounts!
